How To Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Body

mindfulness Mar 23, 2022

To be honest, I think one of the biggest aspects of doing this is learning how to inhabit your body with your full presence. This means, clearing what is not yours (energetically) within the body, so you feel safe within it.

PLUS, learning how to remaining embodied while you feel really strong sensations and emotions within the body.

The body is the home.
The body is the temple.
The body is safe.

However, if you’ve spent years learning to run from your uncomfortable emotions, you are skilled at disassociation.

When we disassociate from the body, we travel up into the mind. This is where things can get scary, because the mind can be very chaotic if not under our control (in the best way possible through conscious attention) and we can absolutely get lost in it.

To bring yourself back down to the body, you can:

1. Go out in Nature.

~ With both of your feet on the ground, close your eyes and imagine your feet having roots, that are burrowing their way down into the Earth. Use our imagination to allow yourself to feel grounded and connected to the planet. This will help you feel more embodied.

2. Take 6.

~ John Assaraf shares in his book, Innercise, to Take 6. Take a deep breath in through your nose, and in your mind say "I am breathing in grounding". As you breathe out, pucker your lips and blow out air as if you're blowing through a straw and say in your mind "I release stress". This will help you come back to the body, and out of the mind.

3. Do something physical.

~ Jump, dance, workout, practice yoga, tap your body, shake, run, walk, do something with the body and focus your attention on what you're feeling inside of yourself. Calling yourself back into the body.

4. Go towards your emotions

~ Often times we run from intensity. Don’t do that anymore. Run towards it. Listen to your emotions, go towards them, feel them, and allow them to circulate and finish their cycle. There is freedom on the other side.

I hope these 4 tips helped!
